Special Circumstances Review Policy
Voting Process for Non-Standard Graduate Applicants
As our committee continues to serve the homeschool community with excellence, we recognize that unique educational journeys sometimes fall outside the parameters of our typical graduation requirements. In order to maintain the integrity and values of our Christ-centered ceremony while offering grace and flexibility when appropriate, the following outlines the procedure for reviewing and voting on such applicants.
Purpose:
To establish a fair and transparent process for considering potential graduates who do not meet all of our standard criteria but may still align with the spirit and mission of our graduation.
Examples of Non-Standard Cases Might Include:
Students who were homeschooled for only part of high school
Students with unconventional transcripts or graduation timelines
Students whose primary educational oversight comes from a non-parental guardian
Students enrolled in umbrella or hybrid programs not clearly falling under our defined homeschool umbrella
How the Review Process Works:
Submission of Request: A parent or guardian must submit a written request for consideration, including:
A brief explanation of the student’s educational path.
A transcript or academic summary.
A statement affirming that the student identifies as a homeschooler and is not receiving a diploma from a public or private institution.
Committee Review:
The President will present the request (anonymized if appropriate) at the next committee meeting.
The committee will discuss whether the request aligns with our mission and values.
Private Vote:
A vote will be taken by committee members either during the meeting or electronically within 48 hours.
A simple majority will determine the outcome.
Notification
The parent or guardian will be notified of the committee’s decision in writing.
All decisions are final and based on the committee’s collective judgment.
Reminder of Our Mission:
Our goal is not to exclude, but to ensure that all participating graduates represent the spirit of homeschooling and our Christian values. This process allows us to thoughtfully include students whose paths may be different but still reflect those ideals.
